Abstract

At Art Karlsruhe 2024, the Petra Rinck Gallery’s exhibition stand featured seven works from the ‘Isolations’ series and a sculpture from the ‘Melancholia Coffee Table’ series. The works in the ‘Isolations’ series are preceded by an analytical examination of masterpieces of painting. This examination focuses in particular on objects within compositions from periods past and reflects on their symbolic significance in our contemporary environment when they are isolated from their context. The methodology was developed from traditional photography used in an academic context for the purpose of reproduction (slide positives). High-resolution scanners are now used for digitisation. The works operate at the intersection of traditional photography and digital image generation.
