Abstract
Through contemporary art practice, this chapter focuses on empathic attention as a particular kind of knowledge located in the provisional, in the oscillating, in the speculative sense in the work of ‘becoming other’. In doing so, the work engages with phenomenological, aesthetic and experimental methods such as;
filming isolated gestures, using the body to mirror actions, developing shared drawing activities, exploring details in archival materials and creating discreet installations. This essay focuses on photographic and film works where gesture, orientation and attention are key methods.
