Research evaluation of therapeutic support services for children: A local area study

Martin-Denham, Sarah and Scott, Nathan (2022) Research evaluation of therapeutic support services for children: A local area study. Project Report. University of Sunderland, Sunderland.

Item Type: Reports, briefing/ working papers (Project Report)

Abstract

This report disseminates the findings of a small scale
study exploring the lived experiences
of four caregivers whose children accessed a
ten-week talking and play therapy programme.

The semi-structured interviews took place
during the COVID-19 pandemic and associated
restrictions across England. This meant that
the programme was delivered predominantly
online, rather than the usual practice of
therapeutic services supporting children in their
schools.

The project had the following objectives:
• Identification of processes that supported
participants to access therapeutic services
• Determine what impact therapeutic services
had on the lives of the children and their
families
• Analyse how services for children exposed
to domestic abuse could be improved
• Recognise opportunities for enhancing
user engagement with support services for
families
